The Young Tom Edison is about the early life of inventor Thomas Edison. The film depicts Edison’s challenges and achievements, such as saving his mother’s life with his light device and preventing a train disaster with his telegraph. The film is considered one of the best portrayals of Edison’s childhood because it captures his curiosity, creativity, and perseverance in the face of various challenges.

 

  • The film was the first of a pair of Edison biopics that MGM released in 1940. The second film, Edison, the Man followed two months later, portraying his later inventions as an adult and completing the story of Edison’s life.

 

The film is based on a biographical book that was written with Edison’s cooperation and approval.

 

The film was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Writing, Original Story.

 

Portrayed by Mickey Rooney

 

Mickey Rooney had a long and prolific career, appearing in more than 300 films and winning many awards. He was one of the last surviving stars of the silent film era. One of Mickey Rooney’s greatest awards was the Academy Honorary Award that he received in 1983, in recognition of his 50 years of versatility in a variety of memorable film performances.
